Two stones for Stratton in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the West Fork Wallowa River just below the footbridge crossing on the Ice Lake Trail (off the West Fork). Thinking about Stratton snow camping and splitboarding in these wild wonderful mountains of northeast Oregon. I placed the two stones together on a granite rock with a few inches of water flowing over them and added a sprig of Pearly Everlasting wildflower for his everlasting spirit. As I watched, one stone slowly started to slide downriver. Soon, both would be in the flow of the wild waters of Oregon's largest wilderness area. I like to think of the stones finding their way of flow in the icy pure waters. The steep peaks above call his name, too, in the voices of pika, Wallowa rosy finch, marmots, and definitely--ravens. Marina
